The Petterwangy rush spurred the hopes of those wanting to advance the colony, in the way that the rushes of California and Victoria had, only a few decades earlier, changed their States forever. The Peterwangy rush was a failure, and sore lesson on top of a decade or so of false starts.

Toodyay, one of the earliest settlements in Western Australia, dating from the 1830s, and the scene of many interesting incidents, showed that after a century of occupation it had more secrets to reveal, when in 1931, early in the first Great Depression, Brown and party discovered payable gold in Yinniding Creek, eight miles south-west of the town. This is an example of resources expanding to fill the needs. This systematic collection of items in chronological order shows how the finds supported a small community of diggers during the difficult years of high unemployment and minimal incomes.

Interior and binding are still excellent. Western Australia's last great traditional gold rush occurred at Larkinville during the depths of the 1930s depression. The Larkinville goldfield is located in the Shire of Coolgardie, between Widgiemooltha and Spargoville. The largest gold nugget found in Australia in the 20th century, the Golden Eagle, was discovered in the Larkinville rush. This book covers in detail the 1930s at Larkinville. It contains a systematic collection of reports of the rush, descriptions of 'Larkinville City', details of all the known nuggets found there including the Golden Eagle, biographies of many of the prospectors (well indexed), and an examination of the prospecting schemes and political efforts to counteract the depression. The Eagles Nest is heavily illustrated with more than 150 photographs and maps.
