Since the publication of the comprehensive review about reaction rate theory in Rev. Mod. Phys. 52, 251 (1990) the field has witnessed many majordevelopments and extensions both in experiment and theory. In this book the focus will be on the theoretical progress. In doing so, the editorscollected aseries ofauthoritative articles from majorpractitioners in the field which as a whole give a representative- although notcomplete sample ofthe novel recenttheoretical advances. As an inevitable consequence, the editors recognize that not all readers will wish to digest the volume in its entirety. We trust, however, that the reader will be able to choose from the many methods and techniques which he is interested in, and which he requires to perform his own new research in this area. Er wurde jedoch 1911 gegen seinen Wi…llen in eine psychiatrische Anstalt eingewiesen und lebte ab 1913 bis zu seinem Tod als Patient der damals abgelegenen Pflegeanstalt Rheinau. Seine Krankenakte vermerkt, dass Bachofner unentwegt zeichnete und sich die Blätter zu Hunderten neben seinem Tisch stapelten. Davon haben sich 70 aussergewöhnliche Zeichnungen zu von ihm erfundenen grossen Maschinen erhalten. Sie belegen seine grandiose Originalität als Erfinder und sein enormes Fachwissen, das umso bemerkenswerter ist, als ihm in der Pflegeanstalt keinerlei Fachliteratur zur Verfügung stand. Dieses neue Buch untersucht in fundierten Beiträgen von Ingenieuren, Technik- und Kunsthistorikern Bachofners Erfindungen auf ihre Aktualität, Originalität und Machbarkeit hin und ordnet sein Werk in das industrielle Geschehen seiner Zeit und seiner Heimatregion ein. Zudem vermittelt es auch sehr zeitgemäss den Reiz der Technik für die Kunst.

Neben dem vorliegeden Band gab er 1841 den katalog der Stadtbibliothek Solothurn heraus.
