Contact seller5-star sellerWrappers. Condition: Good copy. 16vo. 47 pp. The First Biography Of Joaquín Torres García, Renowned Latin American Painter And Art Theoretician. 16vo; original illustrated wrappers. Cover and title page illustrated by Joaquín Torres García. Roberto Julio Payró, one of the authors of this biography, is considered the discoverer o…f Torres García. In fact, one of the first books Torres García wrote, in which he began to develop his artistic concepts, titled El descubrimiento de sí mismo. [Self Discovery] (Gerona, 1917) bears the subtitle Cartas a Julio (Payró), que tratan sobre cosas muy importantes para los artistas (Letters to Julio (Payró) Dealing with Very Important Issues for Artists.) The other author, Guillermo de Torre, was the most relevant Spanish Argentinean critic of the European and American avant garde movements. Joaquín Torres García, (1874,1949) was the creator of Constructive Universalism, one of the most important schools of thought on art in the 20th century, in the Americas as well as worldwide. Born in Montevideo (Uruguay), he moved with his family to his father's hometown of Mataró (Catalunya, Spain) in 1891, later settling in Barcelona. In his first phase, Torres García subscribed to a more academic style, having illustrated several books in this manner. As the 20th century wore on, he became involved with the Cubist movement, where he stood out for his deep theoretical knowledge and the originality of his painting.
