He became world renowned for planning and building the capital Brasilia, which was declared a World Heritage Site in 1987. In 1988 he was awarded the Pritzker Prize. Niemeyer, who was highly prolific up until his death, is one of the most productive architect s in history and designed over 600 buildings. Albrecht Kossel was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine "in recognition of the contributions to our knowledge of cell chemistry made through his work on proteins, including the nucleic substances". The Nobel lectures by van der Waals, Wallach, and Kossel are in German.
