Originally published in Herborn in 1619, Georg Pasor's koine Greek* and L…atin dictionary of the New Testament is, according to Adolf Deissmann in his "Light from the Ancient East" (1927), "the first lexicon to the New Testament." However, Deissman's claim has recently come under some criticism by John Lee, who shows (in his "History of New Testament Lexicography" (2003) that Pasor's work relies heavily on the work of his predecessors (especially Stephanus). Pasor does, however, seem to be the first NT lexicographer to divide his entries into senses, and his work dominated the field of NT lexicography throughout the 17th century. (For more information, see: J. William Johnston's "The Use of PAS in the New Testament" (2004)). Binding age-toned, partly darkened and soiled. Ex-library bookplate on inside of front cover. Title page detached but present. Contemporary previous owner's inscription dated 1713 at lower margin of title page (not affecting lettering). Minor and sporadic foxing throughout. Text in Latin and Greek. Binding in overall good-, interior in good to very good condition. About the author: Georg Pasor (1570-1637) was a philologist and private teacher, who later became professor of Greek and Hebrew at the university of Herborn, and in 1626, professor of Greek at the university of Franeker. * Before Alexander the Great, the Greek language was an assortment of localized dialects. Alexander wanted a Greek language common to all peoples. It was called 'koine' or common. By the time the New Testament was written (mid to late 1st century A.D.) koine Greek had become the common language in Israel. Koine Greek became more popular in Rome than Latin. One reason was Rome's acceptance of all cult religions as long as the Emperor was worshipped as well. One of the titles of the Emperor was the koine word, "kurios," which means "Lord." It was a divine title of the emperor! It was the main word used by the LXX (Septuagint) translators of the Old Testament when they translated the Hebrew word YHVH.

Die Deckel des geglätteten Kalblederbandes sind stärker fleckig und berieben, die Ecken bestoßen und aufgeplatzt, beide Kapitale mit Fehlstellen, die Außengelenke gebrochen. Wenige Seiten mit alten Tintenflecken, innen ansonsten sehr sauber. Außer mit dem gestochenen Titel und mit einigen Schmuckinitialen noch mit den folgenden fleurons und Vignetten ausgestattet: auf Blatt 2 die schwarze Sirene (Rahir 21), auf Blatt 4 der behaarte Büffelkopf (Rahir 17), dieser wiederholt auf Seite 1 und dem ersten Indexblatt. Auf Blatt 4 verso die hübsche Vignette mit dem Buch und dem Leidener Wappen (Rahir 50), als Schlußvignette des Hauptteils auf Seite 536 und des "Libellus" auf Seite 47 dient Rahir 54, die dritte Seite des Libellus beginnt erneut mit der Sirene (Rahir 21). Provenienz: Toulouse (Ordens-Bibliotheken), Weddigen Stammt einem gelöschten Eintrag auf dem gestochenen Titel nach wohl ursprünglich aus der Bibliothek der Karmeliter in Toulouse, ganz schwach zu erkennen, obwohl rasiert: "Carmeli. Tolosa.", auf Blatt 2, dem ersten Blatt der gedruckten Widmung dann etwas ausführlicher und von alter Hand mit Tinte eingeschrieben "Ex Bibliotheca magni Carmeli Tolosani", später dann, lt. Bibliotheksschild auf dem vorderen Innendeckel ("[gedruckt im typographisch verziertem Rahmen] RESID. TOLOS. S.J. [darunter handschriftlich] D. 11. 20.") in die Bibliothek der Toulouser Jesuiten-Residenz gekommen, auf dem Rücken das Fragment der gedruckten Bibliotheks-Sigle ("D 1."). Pasoris Manuale Novi Testamenti, auctum vocibus etc., Auctore Ch. Scotano[sic!] etc. Cette différence paraît avoir échappé à Brunet qui ne cite que le premier titre."). Neben dem gestochenen Titel und einigen größeren Schmuckinitialen finden sich die folgenden fleurons und Vignetten in diesem Band: Blatt 2, Seite 1, sowie das erste Blatt des Index (nach S. 686) jeweils mit einem fleuron (Rahir 64), Blatt 6 verso mit einer Vignette, die ein aufgeschlagenes Buch zeigt (Rahir 110), Blatt 7 recto it dem fleuron Rahir 69, als Schlußvignette auf S. 686 des Hauptteiles dient Rahir 90, auf Blatt 13 recto, am Schluß des Index die Vignette Rahir 86. Auf Seite 3 des separat paginierten "Libellus" wird erneut das fleuron Rahir 64 verwendet, Schlußvignette auf S. 38 des Libellus ist erneut Rahir 90. Provenienz: N.N., Davs, Böhringer, Darger[?], Weddigen Aus dem vorderen fliegenden Vorsatz wurde im oberen Teil ein großes Stück herausgeschnitten, um ältere Vorbesitzereinträge zu tilgen. Auf dem gestochenen Titel, im unteren weißen Rand finden sich zwei Einträge in Tinte von älteren Händen, "Alex Davs[?]" und "Böhringer", darunter, fast unleserlich, da mit Bleistift eingetragen und fast ausradiert "Darger[?]". Provenienz: Ma_d[?], Schoder, Hinsbeck, Weddigen Auf dem vorderen fliegenden Vorsatz handschriftlicher Besitzeintrag in Blei "C. L. S. M. Ma[g oder y]d", sowie ein gestempelter Zettel von Adolf Hinsberg handschriftlich mit (falscher) Willems-Nummer ("505 Var[iante] 3") und Herkunft ("Schoder 1/2. 1913 M 3,60") versehen und eingeklebt, darauf auch Weddigens handschriftliche bibliographische Hinweise.
