In chiusura del Giubileo 2025 i Mercati di Traiano - Museo dei Fori Imperiali ospitano una mostra collegata a questo straordinario evento e dedicata al secondo Giubileo della storia, quello del 1350. Fu un Giubileo particolare, celebrato durante la cosiddetta Cattività Avignonese, ossia quel lungo periodo compreso tra il 1309 e il 1377 in cui i papi, tutti francesi, risiedevano non a Roma ma ad Avignone. A perorare esplicitamente l'indizione del Giubileo per l'anno 1350 fu il Comune di Roma, che nel novembre 1342 invio ambasciatori all'appena eletto papa Clemente VI (1342-1352), chiedendogli inoltre di riportare la sede pontificia nell'Urbe. Il papa resto saldamente nella città sulle rive del Rodano ma con la bolla Unigenitus Dei Filius, emanata il 27 gennaio 1343, concesse il Giubileo. Tra i sostenitori piu illustri dell'indizione dell'anno giubilare spiccano figure come Cola di Rienzo (1313-1354) e Francesco Petrarca (1304-1374). Il primo poco dopo sarebbe diventato protagonista indiscusso della scena politica romana: fu Cola a comunicare al Senato e al Popolo Romano che il papa aveva indetto il Giubileo, inviando da Avi- gnone a Roma una lettera piena di entusiasmo e gioia. Il secondo, innamorato di Roma, fu più volte presente in città: in Campidoglio, in un memorabile giorno dell'aprile 1341, Petrarca era stato laureato poeta dal Comune con una solenne cerimonia. Vi tornerà nel 1343 e poi proprio nel 1350, come pellegrino, in quello che lui stesso definì in una lettera a Giovanni Boccaccio il più felice fra i suoi soggiorni romani. Libro.…
