Lastly, aspects regarding the production techniques for miniatures are examined. Some of the researchers focused on the early use of miniatures, investigating specific representations or messages conveyed by miniatures. Others explored the special intimacy of the objects. Lara Fenyar, for example, discussed the symbolic content of finger rings in the Maddalena di Giacomo Foundation; these finger rings are adorned by miniature portraits, allegorical depictions, and hair inlays. Due to their small format, miniature portraits were ideal for pictures and motifs that were a little more risqué. Lisa Hecht examined miniatures from the perspective of gender studies; looking at works from the seventeenth century, she shed light on the phenomenon ofwomen dressing up as men. Ulysse Jardat was particularly interested in the interactions between a monarch and his miniature painters.
