The Women Who Make Our Novels examines the contributions of prominent American women novelists in the early 20th century, focusing on their artistic achievements and personal journeys. The work highlights how these women navigated societal constraints while making significant impacts on literature. The author introduces the book by establishing his approach to discussing the lives and works of female novelists, recognizing the historical moment in which their voices were gaining prominence. The narrative delves into their creative processes, personal stories, and the challenges they faced as women in a male-dominated literary world. The discussion begins with an exploration of the life of one such writer, emphasizing the tension between public success and personal isolation. Soft cover. Condition: Good. Here is a single issue of "The Bookman" : Volume LXIV, No. 3, November 1926. There is always something of interest to be found in old issues of "The Bookman" - often many such somethings. In this issue is the First Appearance of a travel piece by Aldous Huxley ("Diary of an Eastern Journey"). Various authors have pieces on H. G. Wells (by a young Floyd Dell), Ellen Glasgow, Somerset Maugham, Edgar Allan Poe's Parents, and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. There is a poem by Henry Morton Robinson - and poems by several others. To say that this issue reviews the then current literature is an understatement. This copy is in rough condition, with numerous imperfections, but it is complete, clean and intact in original wraps, and quite serviceable. (See below for our condition report) . CONTENTS : -- The Point of View (Editorial) -- On Parting with a Favorite Author - by Hugh Walpole -- Ellen Glasgow : Citizen of the World - by Dorothea Lawrence Mann (with a Silhouette by Julie Brown) --The Goddess Yesandno - by Bartlett Cormack -- The Shirt - a Story by Genevieve Taggard (With Sketches by Lydia Gibson) -- Public Women in Married Life - by June Lucas -- The Dramatic Careers of Poe's Parents - by Eola Willis -- Diary of an Eastern Journey - by Aldous Huxley (This is the First Appearance of this work by Huxley) -- The Somerset Maugham of "The Casuarina Tree" - by Grant Overton (with a portrait of Maugham by Bertrand Zadig) -- A Little Girl's Utopia - by George Shelton Hubbell -- The Sun in Splendour - Conclusion of a Serialized Novel by Thomas Burke. -- Longfellow's Golden Years - by Herbert S.
