Der Ausgang des Weltkrieges und die sich daraus ergebenden wirtschaftlichen Verhältnisse ermutigten nicht zu der Herausgabe, die zu anderer Zeit leicht zu verwirklichen war, nun aber auf mancherlei Schwierigkeiten stieß, die auf einen endgültigen Verzicht hinauszulaufen schienen. Wenn die Herausgabe jetzt noch erfolgt, so geschieht es auf den Wunsch des Vorstandes der Salzgewerkschaft und aus dem Grunde, die Schrift den Kreisen, die zu dem alten Saltwerke und dem mit ihm unzertrennlich verbundenen Flecken Salzderhelden Beziehungen haben, und zu denen in erster Linie die Salzgewerken gehören, zugänglich zu machen. Ich lege die Arbeit, eine Frucht meiner, namentlich mit Durch- stöbern alter Salinenaften, verbrachten Mußestunden, vertrauensvoll in die Hände des Lesers in der sichern Erwartung freundlicher Aufnahme. Ich bitte um Nachsicht da, wo eine gewisse Weit-Schweifigkeit in der Darstellung der Einzelheiten nicht zu umgehen war, und ich hoffe, das Interesse des Lesers für die wechselvolle Vergangenheit des alten Werkes, eines Stückes Heimat, geweckt zu haben.
