"Der Bauer Konrad Nußbaumer aus dem Dorf Langenegg im Wes…ten Österreichs, in Vorarlberg, ist Besitzer von drei Kühen und einer Kamera, die er 1934 bei einem Preisausschreiben gewonnen hat. Mit der Kamera photographierte er in den 30er und 40er Jahren die Menschen in seinem Dorf bei der Arbeit, an den Festen des Jahres, bei Taufe, Hochzeit und Beerdigung. Die Bilder erinnem in der Qualität an den großen deutschen Photographen August Sander. Die meisten Personen, die der heute 83jährige Konrad Nußbaumer auf seinen Photographien abgebildet hat, sind schon gestorben. Mit jedem von ihnen stirbt auch ein Stück der dörflichen Welt mit ihrer eigenen Kultur. Hans Weiss hat diese Welt in neun dokumentarischen Geschichten festgehalten: - Ein Bauer erzählt, wie sich das Dorf und die Arbeit in den letzten fünfzig Jahren verändert hat. - Eine 92jährige Dorfbewohnerin stellte ihr Tagebuch zur Verfügung, das sie während ihrer Zeit als Dienstmädchen in Schweizer Grand-Hotels, als Arbeiterin, als Gemeindesekretärin und als kurzzeitige Bürgermeisterin geführt hat. - Ein Pole aus Galizien erzählt, warum er heute Bauer in Langenegg ist. - Arme Leute im Dorf schildern, was Armut im Dorf bedeutet. - Eine Frau berichtet von ihrer Hochzeit, vom Kinderkriegen, vom Essen und von der Mühsal und Plage der Arbeit; sie erzählt davon, was es bedeutet, Frau zu sein im Dorf. - Die Tochter vom "Hirschenwirt" erinnert sich an ihren Vater, der in Langenegg Theaterleiter war und dessen Leidenschaft Handelsreisen waren. - Weitere Geschichten berichten von Glaube und Aberglaube, von der Schule, vom Leben auf der Alpe."
