A biography of the physician who was thought to have conspired with John Wilkes Booth in the assassination of Abraham Lincoln and assisted in Booths escape. Originally published in 1906. Presume this is the first facsimile issue. Except for a barely/faint smudge (finger…?) to foredges, the volume is FLAWLESS, being clean and tight with no markings. At rear is a fold out facsimile document ( Mint) from the Michigan's Legislature's House, which issued Resolution # 126, stating that " Dr. Mudd was innocent of any complicity in the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln". This text is an interesting piece of historical Presidential Americana. Also, laid in is a 1992 newspaper article (in protective mylar slip) about Dr. Mudds grandson and a family biography. Volume is protected in a mylar slip. 383 pages.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book presents a compelling and intimate portrait of Dr. Samuel A. Mudd, a Maryland physician who was wrongly imprisoned for his alleged involvement in the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln. Through a collection of personal letters, official statements, and legal arguments…, the author provides a detailed account of Dr. Muddââ â¢s life, arrest, and subsequent imprisonment at Fort Jefferson, a desolate island prison in the Dry Tortugas. The author meticulously lays out the events surrounding Dr. Muddââ â¢s arrest, including his encounter with John Wilkes Booth, the assassin, and the subsequent investigation that implicated him in the conspiracy. The book delves into the complex legal battle surrounding the case, highlighting the controversial use of a military commission to try the accused and the ongoing debate over the limits of wartime justice. Dr. Muddââ â¢s letters from prison provide a poignant glimpse into his emotional turmoil and his unwavering belief in his innocence. Through his words, we witness the hardship of his confinement, the relentless anxiety for his wife and children, and his eventual willingness to sacrifice his own well-being to help his captors during a deadly yellow fever outbreak. The book ultimately challenges the historical narrative surrounding Dr. Muddââ â¢s conviction, raising questions about the role of prejudice and political maneuvering in a time of national crisis. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
