Ships husbandry or ship husbandry is all aspects of maintenance, cleaning, and general upkeep of the hull, rigging, and equipment of a ship. The term is used in both naval and merchant shipping, but naval vessel husbandry may also be used for specific reference to naval vessels. Underwater ships husbandry can be financially advantageous when it eliminates the need for dry-dock repairs or extends the interval between dry-dockings, and reduces the time a ship is required to stay in dry-dock. Weld surfaces are prepared by cleaning with scrapers, chipping hammers or hand-held brushes, and pneumatic or hydraulic grinding tools. This work serves as a guide/reference for those engaged in underwater ship husbandry. NAVSEA 00C5 has proven that Underwater Ship Husbandry (UWSH) saves money. It often eliminates the need for drydock repairs and minimizes the amount of ship time spent in dry dock. NAVSEA's Underwater Ship Husbandry Division (UWSH) is chartered to develop techniques, procedures, and equipment to perform ship repairs waterborne. The Division is responsible as program director, technical authority, acquisition manager, and life cycle manager for the Navy UWSH Program. The Objectives of the UWSH Program are to: reduce maintenance costs, improve fleet readiness and influence ship design. By preventing or reducing drydockings, the ship repair process becomes streamlined and cost effective. By providing the UWSH diver with tools, procedures and technical support to accomplish various underwater repairs, fleet readiness and self-sufficiency are increased. Participation in the ship design process provides the opportunity to ensure a ship is "diver" friendly and easily repaired underwater. Presumed First Edition, First printing thus.…

From Wikipedia: "The Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) is the largest of the U.S. Navy's five "systems commands, " or materiel (not to be confused with "material") organizations. NAVSEA consists of four shipyards, nine "warfare centers" (two undersea and seven surface), four major shipbuilding locations and the NAVSEA headquarters, located at the Washington Navy Yard, in Washington D.C. NAVSEA's primary objective is to engineer, build and support the U.S. Navy's fleet of ships and combat systems. NAVSEA accounts for nearly one-fifth of the Navy's budget, with more than 100 acquisition programs under its oversight. The Naval Sea Systems Command was established on 1 July 1974 with the merger of the Naval Ship Systems Command with the Naval Ordnance Systems Command. The Naval Ship Systems Command was established in 1966 replacing the Navy's Bureau of Ships (BuShips). Established in 1940, BuShips succeeded the Bureau of Construction and Repair, which had been responsible for ship design and construction, and the Bureau of Engineering, which had been responsible for propulsion systems." Condition: Sehr gut. Zustand: Sehr gut | Seiten: 994 | Sprache: Englisch | Produktart: Bücher | "Since the 1950s, the U.S. Navy Diving Manual has served as the internationally recognized standard for allowable exposure while breathing compressed air at varying depths. For many years, the 1956/1957 Diving Manual ¿air tables¿ also provided the prescribed decompression schedules for dive profiles that exceeded allowable exposure limits. Due to concern over unacceptable rates of decompression sickness and key research on hyperbaric medicine that has developed mathematical models for gas exchange in human tissues, the U.S. Navy has now totally revised the Manual¿s air tables to make use of this valuable new research. These changes, together with those to the Manual¿s other sections, represent the most comprehensive updating of Navy diving procedures since 1956. Among the key sections affected by this thoroughgoing revision are: Air decompression definitions; Emergency procedures; Repetitive dives; Variations in rate of ascent; Surface-supplied mixed gas diving procedures; Diagnosis and treatment of decompression sickness and arterial gas embolism; Recompression chamber operation. In addition to these key updates, the Manual provides extensive information on medical treatment for dive injuries; dangerous, predatory, and venomous marine animals; and many other topics of interest. It also includes numerous authoritative charts and tables covering all aspects of the diving experience. Revision 6 of the U.S. Navy Diving Manual represents the culmination of extensive research and empirical validation of its core ¿ the crucial air tables that can mean the difference between life and death. These tables, as well as the detailed and carefully researched text, make this latest edition of the Manual an indispensable reference and instructional source for military and civilian divers alike.".…
