Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. A History of Uganda offers readers a sweeping journey from the dawn of humanity in the Nile's cradle to the nation's complex present. Beginning with fossil evidence of early hominins and the stone-age cultures that shaped the landscape, the book traces how geography, migration, and technolog…ical breakthroughs laid the foundations for the great kingdoms of Bunyoro, Buganda, and Nkore. Readers will gain insight into the sophisticated social structures, spiritual beliefs, and economic practices that defined pre-colonial life, from clan systems and ancestor veneration to the iron-working prowess that powered regional trade. The narrative then follows the tumultuous encounter with European explorers, missionaries, and traders, revealing how the quest for the Nile's source sparked a religious and political rivalry that paved the way for colonial conquest. Chapters detail the establishment of the Uganda Protectorate, the imposition of indirect rule, and the profound consequences of the 1900 Buganda Agreement, which reshaped land tenure, governance, and ethnic relations. Readers will experience the economic transformation driven by cash crops, railway construction, and coercive labor systems, as well as the varied forms of African resistance and collaboration that characterized colonial rule.Moving into the era of independence, the book examines the hopeful birth of a nation in 1962, the early challenges of ethnic tension and political rivalry, and the dramatic crises that led to the abolition of traditional kingdoms, the rise of Milton Obote, and the shocking ascent of Idi Amin. Readers will witness the brutality of Amin's regime, the expulsion of the Asian community, the economic collapse, and the eventual liberation war that toppled him. The subsequent return of Obote, the guerrilla war in the Luwero Triangle, and Yoweri Museveni's seizure of power are presented with careful attention to the human cost and the ideological shifts that followed. The final sections explore Uganda's recent decades, covering Museveni's reconstruction efforts, the insurgency of the Lord's Resistance Army, the discovery of oil reserves, and the country's evolving role in regional security. Readers will understand how structural adjustment, political liberalization, and social change have intersected with persistent challenges such as youth unemployment, corruption, and debates over democracy and human rights. By the end, they will have a comprehensive grasp of the forces that have forged Uganda's identity-a story of resilience, tragedy, and ongoing struggle for a stable, prosperous future. A comprehensive history of Uganda from early hominins and stone-age cultures through the kingdoms of Bunyoro, Buganda, and Nkore, colonial encounter, and independence to the present day. Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Sex education means more than just discussing how babies are born. It involves educating the youth about female and male anatomy; legal issues surrounding consent and abuse, information about safe sex practices and sexually transmit…ted infections. It also involves individual responsibility and caution regarding sexual matters. Sex education can also involve a more general discussion about relationships. While sex is a physical act, there are emotional and psychological factors to consider. In Kenya, discussing sex matters in public is like a taboo. Majority of parents in Kenya never underwent any meaningful training or orientation on contemporary sex education. Sex education, is sometimes called sexuality education or sex and relationships education. It is a process of acquiring information and forming attitudes and beliefs about sex, sexual identity, relationships and intimacy. It is also about developing young people s skills to make informed choices about their behavior, and feel confident and competent about acting on these choices. It is a lifelong process of building a strong foundation for sexual health through acquiring information and forming attitudes and beliefs. 72 pp. Englisch.

Advocacy plays an important part in shaping the local policy and funding allocation in…reproductive health in Kenya. In recent years the concept of advocacy has grown in importance in civil society organization in shaping policy process in local and international governments and institutions. Advocacy is influencing other people, building support, promoting commitment to issues and directing decision makers towards solutions. Successful advocates usually start by identifying the people they need to influence policies and planning the best ways to communicate with them. They dwell on issues and build persuasive cases. Advocates organize networks and coalitions to create grounds well of support that can influence key decision makers. They work with the media, the third estate, to help communicate the message. Women s Health Advocacy champions women s health, rights and development unlike men, women s health is a complicated issue, which needs a well coordinated approach to solve. 84 pp. Englisch.

This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -This book, Horizons of Rape in Kenya, was born as a response to growing interest on the part of civil society organizations, government, students and the general public interest on gender based violence and rape in the country and t…he world generally. The project set out with the modest goal of producing a book that could help all understand what the basic elements of rape are, how it can be assimilated and what the best practices might be sought. The core premise of the book was that there were some effective practical camp signs underway that could provide excellent case material for those wishing to better understand the nature of atrocities of rape in Kenya and generally. The authors hope the book will serve as an inspiration to all who may want to set down their experiences add to this new fight on the messy world of rape and gender violence. Regarding the organization, the book consists of twelve chapters well arranged in a coherent manner. The last two chapters are specifically written by two teachers who are authoritative in their areas. After each chapter further up to date reading material is added for academic pursuit. 152 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -According to KDHS (2003) the mortality of under five years children in Kenya continued to increase from 112/1000 in1998 and 115/1000 in 2003. This is attributed to URTI, diarrhea, measles, malaria, malnutrition, HIV/AIDS and their c…ombinations. Access to care is hampered by prevalence of costly specialized services as the poor are left with fewer affordable care options. In 2006, UNAIDS noted that the Kenya ARV Access Program would have several challenges to the universal access related to prevention, treatment, care and support, inefficient commodity management, human resources and inadequate monitoring and evaluation strategies. Many barriers remain to scaling up HIV prevention, treatment and management of children in RPCs. Training of practitioners in the skills required to care for this category of children with HIV infection is necessary to increase the number receiving ART. Lack of availability of appropriate ARV drug formulation that is easily usable and inexpensive is a major impediment to optimal care for children with HIV. The purpose of this study was to investigate the management, financing, insurance and economic policies of ART for these children in Nyanza Region. 196 pp. Englisch.
