So lassen sich einige der Hauptaussagen von Michel Foucault und seiner Diskursanalyse zusammenfassen. Es wundert nicht, dass es in der Geschichte Unmengen an diskursiven Fällen gibt, an denen mittels Schrift, Sprache und Rhetorik die Entstehung und der Einfluss von Macht und Wissen deutlich gemacht werden kann. Ein ganz besonderes Exempel stellen aber Michel Foucaults zusammengetragene Dokumente zum Fall des Pierre Rivière dar. In dem gleichnamigen Buch von 1975 wird auf eindrucksvolle Art und Weise deutlich, wie ein Diskurs funktioniert, welchen Einfluss Sprache ausübt und wie zuletzt Macht und Wissen entstehen. Beide Werke sind Gegenstand dieses Essays, in dem die Entstehung von Macht sowie die damit verbundenen Macht-, Wissens- und Subjektkonstruktionen genauer in den Fokus gerückt werden.
