Brossura. Condition: new. English Text.Milano, 2013; paperback, pp. 96, ill., col. plates, cm 20x27. The first artist book by Benedict, Bonjour Tourist is a demure compilation of the themes, people, and nuances that this LA-born artist holds dear. A conversation with Martin Guttmann-text messages exchanged over a five-month period-sheds some light on it all. For the past several years Will Benedict has been working professionally as a photographer, painter, and tourist. Bonjour Tourist is a series of works relying on various combinations of gouache paintings and cut-out studio portraits, mounted in customized aluminum and foamcore frames. Organized into distinct series, they present the categories of newscasters, postcards, flags, couples having dinner, and nations peeking in through windows. Compared to the kind of aesthetic stimulation one gets from watching TV, these pieces are like watching two, maybe three channels at the same time. In Benedict's work, the buzzing clamor of things, places, foods and people is fossilized in lavishly painted and waxed foamcore passepartouts, freezing the sadness of the tourist and viewer (who are one and the same) into a slightly manic mixture of euphoria and irritability. Captured along with everyone and everything in these passepartouts are paintings on canvas depicting a tits-and-dicks nationalism that sells restaurant food, plane tickets to exotic locales, walls or postage stamps. Libro.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Sprache: English. Zustand: Sehr gut - Kanten leicht bestossen, Einband leicht berieben, sonst sehr gut. 152 Seiten. Gewicht: 1312g. Masse: 345mm x 250mm x 20mm (H x B x T). Beschreibung: Clegg & Guttmann is an artist duo, composed of Michael Clegg (*1957, Dublin) and Martin Guttmann (*1957, Jerusalem). Since the early 1980s their photographs have been based on questions of portraiture, the representation of power, and the codification of gestures. Famous for their images representing powerful people or families inspired both by 17th-century Dutch painting and commissioned portraits for annual reports, they developed different typologies of photographs through the 1980s and 1990s. Two of these typologies are the subject of this large-format monograph: "Portraits and Artworks" and "Collaborative Portraits." If the first category reunites portraits of men and women around artworks, the second one gathers together collaborations between Clegg & Guttmann and other artists. This volume is the first illustrated book dedicated entirely to their photographs. It is accompanied by a text by Clegg & Guttmann, as well as by an introduction by Tobia Bezzola. Published with Codax Publishers, Zurich.
