Pas de couverture. Condition: Satisfaisant. Edition originale. REFERENCES: Barboi AC, Goetz CG & Musetoiu R: The origins of scientific cinematography and early medical applications, Historical Neurology, 2004, 62(11), 2082-2086: "Between 1899 and 1902, Marinescu perfected the use of cinematography as a research method in neurosciences and published five articles based on cinematographic documents. He focused his studies particularly on organic gait disorders, locomotor ataxia, and hysteria. He adapted Charcot's method of lining up several patients with the same disorder and showing them together to permit appreciation of archetypes and formes frustes. He decomposed the moving pictures into sequential tracings for publication. Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the complex history of legacies in Roman law, examining how the legal forms for bequests evolved over time. The author traces the development of legacies from their origins in the strict and formalistic legal system of the early Roman Republic to the more flexible an…d equitable system that emerged under the later Empire. Along the way, the book sheds light on the social and economic conditions that shaped the development of Roman law, and on the ways in which the law itself influenced Roman society. The book's insights into the history of legacies are significant not only for our understanding of Roman law, but also for our understanding of the development of law and legal systems more generally. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

Good antiquarian condition Scarce 1895 offprint by Georges Marinesco, Théorie des neurones: Application au processus de dégénérescence et d'atrophie dans le système nerveux, extracted from La Presse médicale and published in Paris by Georges Carré. This copy is inscribed by the author on the title page to Dr. Maurice de Fleury, with de Fleury's engraved bookplate mounted to the front pastedown. Maurice de Fleury was a French physician and psychiatrist, author of important works on psychiatry, depression, and neurasthenia; he was elected to the Académie de médecine in 1909. His work contributed to neuron theory, neurodegeneration, neuropathology, chromatolysis, neuronophagia, retrograde degeneration, and the study of Parkinsonian pathology. A modern review describes Marinesco's contributions as "paradigm shifts" in neuroscience and notes his importance in the development of modern neurological science. hardcover. Condition: fine. first edition. - - - - - - - - - - The first volumes of the Iconography of Salpêtrière are the rarest and most sought after because they were published during the lifetime of Charcot who participated in the enterprise with numerous contributions. Later, under the leadership of his students and then of Alfred Fournier, the magazine gained notoriety and its circulation increased. "The Iconography of La Salpêtrière is one of the first photographic archives in the field of clinical psychiatry. Under the direction of Jean-Martin Charcot, and funded by the French government, this archive represented an effort to catalog the unclassifiable via new photographic and documentary techniques. Everything that was on the margins, everything that did not fit into the rational logic of the conception of the time, was subject to dissection at La Salpêtrière. Everything was systematically measured, documented, classified. However, in this process, the use of photography has led to the incorporation of the notion of spectacle and - with this - a real web of complicity between patients and photographers. The spectacle of La Salpêtrière became a real "show" during the "Tuesday session", performed in front of an audience representative of cultural and scientific elites with presentation of contortions induced by hypnosis, epileptic attacks and hysteria, but also elements of a cabinet of curiosities, biological rarities, ?phenomena? or curiosities of nature, etc.

"Early in his career, he published a much needed atlas on the pathological histology of the nervous system with the bacteriologist Victor Babeş and the French pathologist Paul Oscar Blocq. With Paul Blocq he was the first to senile plaques and with Romanian neurologist Ion Minea confirmed in 1913 Hideyo Noguchi's discovery of Treponema pallidum in the brain in patients with general paresis.
