It investigates how the amount of the consumption of political news can help to gain a greater individual responsibility to try to reduce the impact of climate change. Accordingly, this research paper hypothesizes a positive relationship between political news consumption and the individual responsibility to climate change. Through applying multivariate OLS-regressions to a sample of German citizens of the European Social Survey dataset from 2016, the hypothesized relationship can also be observed empirically. A gap regarding the personal responsibility to climate change between people who do consume political news and people who ignore political news can be identified. Based on these results, clear policy implications can be developed to raise the amount of political news consumption for news ignorers to broaden the extent of an individual's responsibility to act against climate change and to develop remedies against this collective action problem.…

It is observed, whether party cohesion as a form of legislative behaviour, influences the degree of citizens' subjective perceptions of an adequate political representation. High levels of party cohesion are expected to create individual impressions of an adequate political representation.To test this theory, I generated a roll-call votes dataset to measure party cohesion since 2017. Together with the latest version of the Eurobarometer dataset of 2018, I observe the subjective level of political representation. The empirical analysis through an ordered logistic regression shows that the hypothesis can cautiously be confirmed, meaning that higher levels of party cohesiveness are associated with higher degrees of subjective political representation.…

The theory contains four basic arguments, which partly already exist and are transferred from the dimension of social equality to the political equality dimension.These theoretical assumptions rely on the counterproductive effects of social policies, different welfare regime types, unequal resource distribution and low internal efficacy. The hypotheses, dealing with one theoretical argument each, could be tested through a combination of the International Social Survey Program (ISSP) database and further additional empirical extensions. This research paper fills the gap within the existing literature explaining how the welfare state can foster political inequality. …

Background for the discussion delivers a qualitative content analysis based on Mayring (2015) and Kuckartz (2016). Hierbei wird nach den zwei Dimensionen der individuell eingeschätzten internen und externen politischen Wirksamkeit unterschieden. Theoretisch wird erwartet, dass sowohl höhere Gefühle der internen als auch der externen politischen Wirksamkeit einen positiven Einfluss auf das individuelle Vertrauen in das Parlament ausüben. Zusätzlich wird bei der Wirkung von politischer Wirksamkeit die Wahlentscheidung bei der zuletzt vorausgegangenen Bundestagswahl für eine Regierungs- oder Nichtregierungspartei in die Untersuchung durch Interaktionseffekte miteinbezogen. Dabei werden die Bürger aller EU-Mitgliedsländer betrachtet. Theoretisch wird vor dem Hintergrund der Gruppenbedrohungstheorie vermutet, dass Bürger, die ihr politisches Wissen über Zuwanderung als hoch einschätzen, positivere Einstellungen gegenüber Immigranten hegen. Zusätzlich wird für politisch interessierte Individuen angenommen, dass diese ebenfalls aus der Perspektive der Gruppenbedrohungstheorie positivere Einstellungen zu Immigranten besitzen. Darauf aufbauend werden drei Hypothesen formuliert. Auf der Datengrundlage des Eurobarometers (Version 88.2) aus dem Jahr 2017 wird eine quantitative statistische Analyse durchgeführt.
