Hardcover. Condition: Good. 12mo. First edition 1823. Translated from the French of M Lambert. Pp vii [1] 133 with a frontis. Quarter maroon roan, gilt bands and title, marbled bds. Frontis has been partially hand coloured, a bit messily, and 2 pages have a few paint strokes in a light blue wash. About a third of the marbled paper is missing from the front bd and the free end papers have been removed. The book is firm but worn, and in just about Good condition. This is a very scarce title. The book was obviously published to try to cash in on the success of Mrs Sherwood's best-selling Little Henry and His Bearer, first published by Houlston's of Wellington in 1814. By the time Mme Lambert's book appeared in 1823 Mrs Sherwood's book was in its 20th edition. The tactic did not work as this was the only edition. Not in Osborne and only the BL copy on Copac.
