Hardback. Condition: Near Fine. There are two kinds of classic car enthusiasts. The first dream of gleaming chrome, flawless coachwork and concours trophies. The second know the dreadful truth: beneath every beautiful old motor lurks a tiny patch of rust quietly plotting world domination. Rust in Peace is written for the latter?…those hardy souls who have discovered that owning a classic vehicle often involves equal measures of romance, optimism and industrial quantities of welding wire. Despite the title sounding suspiciously like a heavy metal album (and, admittedly, one that many mechanics would happily listen to while attacking a corroded chassis with an angle grinder), Malcolm Tucker?s book is a serious and engaging guide to one of the greatest enemies ever faced by motorists. Corrosion has quietly consumed countless otherwise magnificent vehicles, and this book explains why it happens, how to recognise it, how to repair it properly and?perhaps most importantly?how to stop it returning with the persistence of an unwelcome relative. Drawing on years of practical experience, Tucker explores the science behind rust, the techniques used to remove and prevent it, and the methods employed by professional restorers to rescue vehicles that many would have written off long ago. Packed with colour photographs, practical advice and real-world examples, it manages the difficult trick of being both technically informative and reassuringly accessible. Whether you?re tackling a cherished MG, Jaguar, Triumph, Land Rover or virtually anything else built with steel and optimism, there is plenty here to learn. Of course, one quickly discovers that restoring old cars isn?t simply about replacing rusty panels. It is about maintaining morale while lying upside down in a freezing garage wondering whether the floorpan was ever attached to the rest of the vehicle in the first place. It is about discovering that the "small bubble" in the paint conceals a hole large enough to rent out as a studio flat. Above all, it is about accepting that every completed repair merely reveals the next one waiting patiently a few inches away. Beautifully produced and lavishly illustrated, Rust in Peace is one of those books that earns its place on the workshop shelf rather than merely decorating the coffee table. Whether you?re an experienced restorer, an enthusiastic amateur or simply fascinated by the endless battle against oxidation, it offers a wealth of practical knowledge wrapped in an appreciation for the determination required to keep classic vehicles alive. Condition: Near Fine. A remarkably well-preserved copy which, unlike many of the vehicles featured within its pages, appears to have won its battle against the ravages of time. Clean, crisp and in splendid condition, it is ready to educate its next owner without requiring a single patch panel, welding seam or emergency application of rust converter.

Contact seller4-star sellerHardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good Minus. Reprint. This Literary Guild of America reprint edition was published in the same year as the 1st Edition. This copy is almost 100 years old, has been well taken care of and is in fine condition. Its construction is unlike most of the poorly made book club editi…ons. The buckram covered boards, high quality paper and matching top stain add up to a handsome edition possibly as desirable and rare as the first edition. The text block is solid, clean and square. Pictorial endpapers are clear of markings with small previous owner's bookplate under front flap. Spine tight, boards rigid and tips pointed. Slight push to spine ends. There is no book club deboss on the rear cover. The jacket is in very good minus condition and has some closed tearing along backstrip seams and chipping/loss at spine ends and some edges. It looks sleek in a shiny new plastic cover. Shipping box is suitable for wrapping with a non-price listed purchase order inside along with biodegradable packing.
