Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book memorializes the work and life of the great actor Edwin Booth on the 60th anniversary of his birth. Contributions by fellow actors like Salvini, Irving, and Jefferson paint a picture of a conflicted man: a lover of solitude who was revered on stage, a man of great joy who faced terrible tragedy. The author provides an account of Booth's entrance into the theater and traces his rise to become one of America's most beloved actors. Beyond biography, the book dives into Booth's deep commitment to his craft and his generous personal character. Alongside stories of his financial support for the needy and less fortunate, the author explores Booth's belief in the theater as a source of joy and healing, and his conviction of the importance of using his platform to produce work that was historically accurate and thematically ambitious. This book offers an in-depth and nuanced portrait of a man who dedicated his life to the preservation and enrichment of American theater. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

Souvenir program for the opening of the third (of four to date) Madison Square Garden at 8th Avenue and 50th Street in New York City. Light soiling and manuscript marks on only three leaves and short tears in from the spine to the last five leaves, crease at top corner of back cover. Otherwise very good to fine condition. This was a souvenir program which was distributed for a hockey game on December 19, 1925 and a concert on December 20. Most of the program is taken up with ads for local businesses and congratulatory notes from noted individuals. There is little related to the hockey game. This building replaced the second Madison Square Garden which had been built in 1889. The current Garden, at 31st to 33rd Street, was completed in 1968, at which time the third Garden, celebrated by this program, was torn down.
