Er war Gründungsmitglied und seit 1930 Leiter der deutschen Sektion des "Internationalen Wissenschaftlichen Komitees für die Geschichte der Preise" (Rockefeller Stiftung), in dessen Rahmen er vor allem das Material für die vorliegende Arbeit zusammen trug.
