Paperback. Condition: New. Seeds of Diaspora traces the intertwined histories of humans and plants amid cultural and climatic change. Through literary, visual and research-based essays, the book explores how seeds bear witness to migration, resilience and transformation. From post-war landscapes reclaimed by plant life to the tra…vels of fruit trees across continents, from seeds embedded in glacial ice to those carried along routes of labour and exile, Seeds of Diaspora re-imagines the map of human settlement as a living "route of roots." The contributors-writers, artists and researchers from architecture, ecology, anthropology and the humanities-invite readers to see the built and natural worlds as coevolving fields of meaning.from the introduction: "This is a collection of works about plants and people in motion. It brings together writers, artists, and scholars across diverse disciplines to offer insights about the ethical dilemmas that arise in practices of cultivation, broadly defined. It considers the many ways that plants and people activate social and botanical systems. One objective is to inspire readers to think about how seeds and plants shape aspects of the broader human experience. Another objective is to offer a new approach to thinking about time. Seeds archive the past and serve as portals for future actions.".

Buch. Condition: Neu. Neuware -West German architecture underwent a phase of intense productivity from 1949 to 1964. In the immediate postwar years, architects confronted Nazi legacies in building culture amidst drastic privation that hampered construction. As industrial production recovered and a middle-class nation emerged, so… too did a new architecture influenced by the American International Style model, especially as Bauhaus masters returned to Germany from the United States as advisers. But there was much more at stake than style. Construction details and other technical documents reveal that this was a moment when architectural practice aspired to calibrate social, material, and political norms through design. At the center of all these transformations were Hans Schwippert and Sep Ruf, two architects who shared political, religious, and professional allegiances. Schwippert, architect of the new Bonn parliament, worked to align economic redevelopment and a burgeoning consumer goods industry with design. Ruf, to whom Schwippert directed the commission for West Germany's first World's Fair pavilion, found ways to master architectural construction amidst both scarcity and largess. Photographs, drawings, and a broad range of unpublished documents introduce these two architects to an English-language audience.; Die westdeutsche Architektur erlebte zwischen 1949 und 1964 eine Phase intensiver Produktivität. 320 pp. Englisch.
