Has bright marbled endpapers, is split between colour fronticspiece and blank page facing decorative colour title page but still firmly attached. The pages of text and illustrations are clean, bright and unmarked. Complete with all 14 chromolithographic plates and 36 monochrome engraved plates, with numerous engraving throughout the text. Page edges are gold gilt, and the images of the harbors inside are so pretty. Binding is very loose and some pages are loose. Corners bumped and wear to the corners shows hardboards, spine has a hole in the middle. Still a beautiful book. Stock photos may not look exactly like the book.
1/4 leather. Condition: Very Good. J.M.W. Turner (illustrator). First Edition. A lovely copy of the 1856 1st edition, bound in publisher's half-leather over olive-green boards. Gilt-lettered and bordered leather title label affixed to the front panel. 5 raised bands, detailed gilt-tooling within each compartment. Tight and VG, with very light scuffing to the panels and light wear along the outer hinges and at the spine base. Very interesting bookplate ("Frank Cyril Tiarks") to the front pastedown. The 12 magnificent engravings (executed by Thomas Lupton) are in pristine condition and each is accompanied by its original tissue-guard. Folio, all edges gilt.
