I essentially wore out my first copy poring over this text, memorizing names and locations of each of the orchid species presented in this book. Not only is the information complete, with Greek and/or Latin derivations for the scientific name and excellent botanical sketches giving the overall appearance and size and measurement of each flower, but it also contains excellent photographs and interesting, often humorous, anecdotes on Dr. Luer's adventures on finding many of these species in the field. While some of the nomenclature has been revised since the penning of this work, and a few new species have been added to our list of wild orchids, it still stands the test of time as THE definitive work on Florida's orchids. If you have any interest in learning more about Florida's orchids, you owe it to yourself to get this book!" From a 2011 review by David Rickman: The Native Orchids of Florida" by Carlyle Luer was a book I much coveted when I lived in Florida. It was full of excellent color photographs taken by the author, along with detailed descriptions and distribution notes.
