Le frontispice est quant à lui tiré sur papier Japon (il s'agit d'une reproduction d'après Félicien Rops). Louis Protat est né à Châtillon-sur-Loing (Loiret) en 1816. Il étudia les lettres et le droit au collège de Sens puis à Paris. Il achète l'étude de son patron tandis qu'il devient rapidement membre du Caveau (1847). Devenu membre titulaire en 1848, il devint un des chansonniers les plus applaudis de cette société. Ses productions sont souvent badines et grivoises, sa poésie et ses chansons se distinguent par la variété des sujets, la correction de la forme, et la richesse étincelante de la rime. Il fut sept fois Président du Caveau. Il mourut à Paris en 1873. Pierre Larousse parle dans son Grand Dictionnaire de son péché de jeunesse : Examen subi par Mademoiselle Flora etc. publié en 1864. Il sera réédité plusieurs fois de manière clandestine, avec ou sans illustrations. He was seven times President of the Vault. He died in Paris in 1873. Pierre Larousse speaks in his Grand Dictionary of his sin of youth: Review suffered by Mademoiselle Flora etc. published in 1864.
