Thought to be first edition and printing. In good pale khaki coloured cloth boards with black titles to front and spine with fleur de lys motif. The boards are flat, quite firm; slightly marked and shelf-cocked. With unmarked silver coloured end papers with horizontal stripes. The text block has a colour frontispiece of Nailsea Court, a black and white fold-out map and black and white drawings and photos. The artists are Guy Kortright, Harold Cone, F. G. Lewin and F. J. Allen and F. Bromhead. The pages are secure and even; the prelims, end pages, last few text pages and cut edges are foxed. Name of previous owner in purple ink on a prelim; tiny white bookseller's sticker from A. J. Coombes, Betchworth on facing prelim. Good condition. Without jacket. Rare edition. Soft Cover. Condition: Good. No Dust Jacket. Unknown. Original Vintage Postcard - Highly Un-PC nowadays! The written date on the reverse shows 1920. Number 2518 in this series. The image is of a Pretty Little Black Girl with many bows in her hair with 2 black dolls and a little black boy busy eating a melon, hogging all 3 pieces. The text in blue beneath the image reads - the little girl speaking = " Women and children first, Rastus!". A 'humorous' sentiment very much of the period! . The address and message on the back is in purple pencil, and posted/stamped. This is a true first edition that was published by subscription and a list of the subscribers and their addresses is appended in the last few pages of the book. The illustrations including the tissue protected, colour frontispiece are a joy and totally inkeeping with the period. Bound in green boards with black decorations to the front and spine.
