The author argues that Moore's possible worlds approach to formalizing knowledge, though innovative and effective, is flawed by its reliance on rigid designators for actions, which the author finds implausible. The book then presents an alternative first-order approach to knowledge and action, using a three-valued logic with grounded and ungrounded sentences. The book demonstrates how this approach can integrate many of Moore's insights and provide a more expressive and robust framework for reasoning about knowledge and action. The book concludes by discussing the significance of this work for developing more comprehensive and realistic theories of planning and action, and for the development of robust intelligent agents.
