First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 1st Edition. Printed in Great Britain. Date on the title page. First Printing of the First English Edition. Introduction, Bibliographical Note; 247 pages. The original beige cloth is in very good shape, with corners sharp and red lettering still clear on the gently bumped spine. The off-white interior has remained bright despite offsetting to the endpapers from the dustjacket flaps; and some freckles on the text-block edges. There is scattered penciling on about a dozen pages left by my philosopher-father. [Please see my five images of the actual book.] The original unclipped dust jacket is still here, slightly worn, with a sunned spine; all text still clearly legible. "Most people are aware that the poetry of Baudelaire and the life and writings of Rimbaud have an importance outside literature, for they were the first to see how much the human soul had been forfeiting. Claudel and Péguy, . . . now appear as the two great renewers who gave back to art its 'true' value as knowledge. . . . Bloy, however, is still more or less unknown, and it is scarcely realised that he was one of those who had the clearest vision of the dreadful night descending upon the earth, and at the same time one of the most robustly positive of writers in this age of negations." As with every book from my father's collection, tipped-in at the front is the small, attractive, acid-free bookplate pictured on my homepage. All books are wrapped with special care and are shipped promptly with tracking; international sales sent via global priority, also the with tracking. Please note that, due to COVID, overseas shipping may incur unusual delays.
