Avec l'indication des prix atteints, sur l'extrait de la Gazette Drouot joint au catalogue. Cette vente avait atteint un total de 7,6 millions de francs de l'époque. La Galerie Georges Petit portait le nom d'un des plus grands marchands d'art français de la fin du XIX siècle et du début du XXe. A la mort de Georges Petit (1856-1920), la galerie avait été rachetée en particulier par Etienne Bignou, associé aux frères Bernheim-jeune. La galerie fonctionna alors principalement comme une maison de ventes aux enchères, puis elle se mit à organiser des expositions rétrospectives, au début de la grande crise.
