A good+ copy of Bradford's fifth book following HOW COME CHRISTMAS; A MODERN MORALITY (1930) OL' KING DAVID AND THE PHILISTINE BOYS (1930), THIS SIDE OF JORDAN (1929), and OL' MAN ADAM AN' HIS CHILLUN (1928). Although based upon the famous American folklore story of the "steel-driving man" who dies after beating a steam-powered drill in a contest, Roark Bradford's character John Henry is a steamboat roustabout who travels the Mississippi River.
