First printing stated. Lagrannge, an art forger, was sentenced to ten years in the French penal colonies including the notorious Devil's Island. Due to an escape attempt he served 15 years (1931-1946). Following his release he lived in the Caribbean for most of his remaining life, dying in 1964. His paintings are a remarkable visual record of life in the prison colonies. Every effort is made to ship all books and other items within 24 hours.
