Paperback. Condition: As New. New. Contents 1. Introduction i. General description. ii. Present state of research. iii. Dating. 2. Notes on the edition and the translation i. General remarks. ii. Editorial signs. 3. Edition. 4. Translation. 5. Bibliography. Appendices. Index. The inscription that forms the subject of this study…ranks among the oldest extant literary documents from Spiti (Himachal Pradesh). It was already brought to the attention of the scholarly community by H.L. Shuttleworth in 1929 but despite several attempts to edit and translate the fragmentary epigraph it has hitherto remained unpublished. The present study provides the first edition and a richly annotated translation thus establishing a basis for further research on this intricate document. In trying to unravel its contents the author could rely on his detailed digital documentation of the inscription as well as on earlier transcriptions that were prepared in situ. The oldest of these were found among A.H. Francke's unpublished works and are reproduced in transliteration and as facsimile images in the appendix to this volume. 96 pp.

Buch. Condition: Neu. Neuware - Inscriptions are a rather neglected field within Tibetan Studies, because they are often located in places that are not easily accessible for both geographical and political reasons. It is thus especially welcome that two of the contributions to this volume deal with inscriptions documented on rec…ent field trips to Tibet: Benjamin Wood discusses an inscription in Zha lu that relates an enigmatic conflict in the history of the monastery, and Kurt Tropper looks into an epigraphic cycle on the life of the Buddha in Tsaparang. Moreover, Nathan Hill provides a new interpretation of the beginning of the famous Rkong po inscription, and Kunsang Namgyal Lama surveys the various kinds of texts found on tsha tshas. An extra level of reflection is added to the volume by Cristina Scherrer-Schaub's methodological considerations on the classification and interpretation of inscriptions.
