Hardcover. Condition: VG/VG. Gray cloth boards with silver stamped lettering. White and color-illustrated dust jacket with brown and black lettering. 159 pp. Mainly color illustrations. Catalog of an exhibition held at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, University of Oregon, Eugene, January 20-April 29, 2018. Contents: Introduc…tion / Robert and Desirée Yarber, Morris Graves Foundation -- Foreword : the nature of art, the art of nature / Jill Hartz, Executive Director and exhibition co-curator, Danielle Knapp, McCosh Associate Curator and exhibition co-curator -- Finding time in Achepohl's vision of nature / Cory Gundlach -- A conversation with Keith Achepohl -- Works in the exhibition -- Keith Achepohl : curriculum vitae. In 2011, Eugene-based artist Keith Achepohl (American, born 1934) spent three weeks at the Morris Graves Foundation Artist Residency, "The Lake," in Loleta, California. That period of uninterrupted work, followed by a second stay in 2016, profoundly affected both the artist's subject matter and his media. Thus far, Achepohl has created nine distinct yet interrelated explorations of the plants and trees that he observed at Morris Graves's final home, which are presented here for the first time. Although the finished pieces are wholly of nature, they are, according to the artist, neither landscapes nor botanical studies. Rather, he describes them as "more fantasy than reality, an intensely personal language of nature that developed from careful observation to mnemonic response." Achepohl's virtuosity across media is evident in these sensitively rendered, metaphorically rich portraits of The Lake's natural splendor.

Hardcover. Condition: new. Hardcover. James Lavadour: Land of Origin presents the most comprehensive survey to date of works by painter and printmaker James Lavadour (American, Walla Walla, b. 1951). Spanning five decades of his career, this retrospective exhibition catalogue celebrates Lavadour's deep connection to the eastern…Oregon landscape, particularly the Umatilla Indian Reservation and surrounding Blue Mountains region where the artist has spent most of his life, and recognizes his esteemed place in contemporary American painting. Through brushing, pouring, scraping, and dripping oil paints, Lavadour enacts a physical transformation akin to natural phenomena and shifting geological forces: a transfiguration of energy from one state into another. His most recent paintings and prints are spectacularly bold and luminous manifestations of the artist's statement "the land and I are one."James Lavadour: Land of Origin includes essays by Danielle M. Knapp, the JSMA's McCosh Curator and curator of the exhibition, and guest writers Rebecca J. Dobkins, Marie Watt, and Meagan Atiyeh; an anthology of quotes by James Lavadour, edited by John S. Weber; an illustrated exhibition checklist with installation images; and the artist's curriculum vitae. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 140 pages, illustrations (chiefly color), 21 cm. "This publication follows . an exhibition of the same name. Discursive was on view in the JSMA's Artist Project Space from February 28 through April 29, 2018. Organized by University of Oregon Associate Professor of Art and Ceramics Coordinator Bri…an Gillis, it featured new works by Gillis and colleagues in the School of Art + Design alongside the works of visitors who participated in the UO's 2016 Summer Craft Forum with them. This reader expands on the multi-perspective dialogue between these artists. Rather than documenting the 2018 exhibition, it gathers these collaborators' individual reflections on making and thinking--told through pages individually curated by each." -- the Foreword. Very good condition. Round sticker affixed to front pastedown.
