More than 300 illustrations and photographs accompany the story of pivotal events and the details of student life from the first classes held on the Georgia frontier in 1801 through the impact of the Civil War and Reconstruction, the admission of women in 1918, and the construction of a new east campus. This new edition features an in-depth chronicle of the University of Georgia's rapid growth during the past decade and describes the effects of the expansion of the student body and faculty, the burgeoning athletic program and its new emphasis on women's sports, and the administrations of Charles Knapp and Michael Adams. From landmark changes to little-known events and curious facts, A Pictorial History of the University of Georgia presents a complete portrait of the school that blends educational innovation and cultural diversity with long-standing traditions. This rare book explores the life and career of John Dafte, a 17th-century London gunmaker, and his involvement in the Rye House Plot of 1683, a failed conspiracy to assassinate King Charles II and James, Duke of York. The book provides historical context, details of Dafte's gunsmithing career, and an illustrated catalogue of surviving firearms attributed to him. This first edition was privately published in a limited run of 100 copies, twenty of which were leather-bound. It includes photographs, maps, plans, and drawings, along with a fold-out map of Rye House, where the conspiracy was centered. The book is known for its detailed research and historical insights into both Dafte's work and the broader political intrigue of the time. Ref DDD 1.

Book & Merchandise. Condition: new. Book & Merchandise. With significant new and updated content across dozens of chapters, this second edition presents the most exhaustive treatment available of the techniques psychologists and others have developed to help them pursue a shared understanding of why humans think, feel, and behav…e the way they do. The initial chapters in this indispensable three-volume handbook address broad, crosscutting issues faced by researchers: the philosophical, ethical, and societal underpinnings of psychological research. Next, chapters detail the research planning process, describe the range of measurement techniques that psychologists most often use to collect data, consider how to determine the best measurement techniques for a particular purpose, and examine ways to assess the trustworthiness of measures. Additional chapters cover various aspects of quantitative, qualitative, neuropsychological, and biological research designs, presenting an array of options and their nuanced distinctions. Chapters on techniques for data analysis follow, and important issues in writing up research to share with the community of psychologists are discussed in the handbook amp rsquo s concluding chapters. Among the newly written chapters in the second edition, the handbook amp rsquo s stellar roster of authors cover literature searching, workflow and reproducibility, research funding, neuroimaging, various facets of a wide range of research designs and data analysis methods, and updated information on the publication process, including research data management and sharing, questionable practices in statistical analysis, and ethical issues in manuscript preparation and authorship. An extensive resource exploring the multifaceted world of psychological research, this handbook covers philosophical, ethical, and societal underpinnings, research planning, measurement techniques, diverse study designs, data analysis strategies, and evolving publication practices, offering insights into understanding human behavior. Hardcover. Condition: As New. Dust Jacket Condition: Dust Jacket Included. Over 650 colour illus., catalogues of pictures, portraits, lithographs and prints, appendices; 1,000pp. 4to orig. blue cloth, The first major study of England's foremost cattle painter.Cooper's reputation has suffered because of the numbers of copies, fak…es, and lesser-quality works produced in extreme old age, which have been taken to be representative of his ability. He was not a stock painter producing portraits of single animals for their owners. His pictures, except in rare exceptions, depict groups of animals carefully composed, in a manner inspired by the Dutch Old Masters, like Cuyp and Potter.Kenneth Westwood has put forward a body of evidence to show Cooper was the equal of the best Victorian landscape painters. His painting, as would be expected of a fine lithographer, was based on sound draughtsmanship. He made hundreds of sketches, which he did not sell, but used as an image library to construct his pictures. Apart from the familiar pictures of cattle and sheep in the Canterbury meadows, Cooper produced dramatic droving and snow scenes, and also created pictures like The Half-Past One O'Clock Charge at Waterloo, which were a marked contrast to his usual subjects.
