An early vegetarian cookbook by Mrs. Kellogg, who was captivated by the Battle Creek Sanitarium's policies, and eventually wound up marrying its director, J.H. Kellogg. From the collection of cookery author Julia Perrin Hindley with her bookplate on front endpaper. She is most noted for her 18 years of work with Safeway during which time she developed the persona Julia Lee Wright for them, using her own signature for the brand logo.

Ella was the wife of John Harvey Kellogg, the physician behind the sanitarium and a central figure in the Seventh-day Adventist health movement. The book is built around the idea that what you eat directly affects your blood, your muscles, your brain, and your overall health, and that most people simply eat whatever is convenient without giving any thought to its nutritional value. It covers food science, digestion, proper food combinations, and a large collection of original recipes. As the preface notes, hundreds of her recipes had already been copied into other cookbooks and journals before this book was even published. Marbled page edges. Bound in ivory cloth with ornate black titles to the front board and titles to the spine. Good condition. The front hinge has split along the bottom couple of inches, with wear to the interior hinges, though the book remains intact, plus some black ink stains to the spine. Bumped and worn corners and general shelf wear. Some chipping to page edges, most notably to the last blank pages. Minor foxing and smudging in places throughout.
