Jedes Heft enthielt in der Regel 10 handkolorierte Tafeln mit je einem Textblatt, beides nicht nummeriert. Die Pflanzen wurden in der Reihenfolge herausgegeben, wie sie zur Verfügung standen, ohne erkennbare Systematik. 12 Hefte bilden einen Band, zu dem Titelblätter, verschiedene Inhaltsverzeichnisse und teilweise einige Textseiten erschienen sind. Nach dieser Systematik sind hier die Textbände gebunden. Nach Abschluss der Lieferungen wurden weitere Titelblätter und Register herausgegeben, die das Werk systematisch erschließen. Diese sind im Anhang zu Band 12 eingebunden. Die Tafeln sind weitgehend systematisch angeordnet. Jede Tafel wurde auf ein deutlich größeres Blatt montiert.
