Contact seller5-star sellerDecorative Cloth. Condition: Good. No Jacket. First Edition. Hugo of the Blade by Julius F. Seebach was published by The Board of Education of The United Lutheran Church in America, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1938. This ex-church library, 271-page, probable First Edition offering(for what it's worth) is in G condition. Overa…ll in still quite sound physical shape despite its 73-odd years, there is noticeable staining of paste down and loose end pages front and back from original glue, some modest yellowing of text's pages, 2-3 of the requisite library markings are observed, and there is some random, light spottiness along top edges of front, and back, cover boards. A little webbing is seen between pages 128-129 of text. This is, in a way, a strange book. At least, it was hard to get a handle on just what it was attempting to tell. In fact, it is set in central Germany, and begins during the reign of Pope Alexander VI(began 1492; ended 1503). As the story commences, a young man, Hugo, is returning to his family after six, long years of absence. His family, in fact, had pretty much given him up for dead. Hugo had, six years before, been sent to the stream, bucket in hand, to fetch water for the family to use that day. But, he does not return--until, that is, six years later. I'll say no more of that aspect of our tale. This essentially historical novel spans several future generations of our young Hugo's family, and in essence tells of how said family, and the people in general, react and respond, prosper and suffer, amidst the somewhat chaotic religious and political ebbs and flows that dominated feudal Germany in the 16th and 17th centuries. In fact, this book could easily be described as the story of the lead-up to, birth, and gradual rise of the Protestant Reformation. You see, young Hugo's father, Fritz, and mother, Gretchen, just happen to live a fairly short walk from their good friends, the Luther family, whose youngest son, Martin, has so far proven to be an unusually bright little boy in every respect. Well, there you are. I'll quit while I'm behind, for the most part. I wish I'd had time to read further before composing this summary; it is, in its own way, a most interesting book by an author who clearly did his research in preparation for the task of writing. Thank you very much!.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book recounts the stories of obscure, feeble individuals who played a significant role in the great Reformation movement of the 16th century. These were often ordinary peopleâ"children, women, and the agedâ"who, despite limited social influence, witnessed for the pure gospel truth… in their homes, on the streets, and in the face of imprisonment, persecution, or even death. Their tales shed light on the lesser-known struggles within this great historical and religious upheaval and demonstrate the far-reaching impact of their actions. By highlighting these often-overlooked figures, the author invites readers to appreciate the diverse and courageous ways individuals contributed to shaping the course of religious history. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
