This is a witty and humorous edition of Carroll's famous poem. The text and preliminary pages for this edition have been set from a copy of the first edition, published by Macmillan & Co. in 1876. The illustrator, Harold Jones (1904 - 1992) was a British artist, illustrator and writer of children's books. Critic Brian Alderson called him "perhaps the most original children's book illustrator of the period," [Wikipedia] Bound in black cloth with gilt titling and decorative border on front cover and gilt titling to spine. Housed in a black paper covered slipcase. Printed in Caslon type on mouldmade paper made at St Cuthbert's Mill. The endpapers were made by Solveig Stone at the Compton Press and bound by Hunter & Foulis. In fine condition. Measures 8 x 11.5 inches. 45 pages plus colophon. PRI/111524. Signed.
