Format is approximately 8.5 inches by 10.5 inches. This is the third volume of the history of the 2d U.S. Infantry Division in the Korean conflict. It covers th…e period 1 January 1953--31 December 1953. All efforts were directed to give adequate coverage to all units in the division and to present an accurate and objective account of their activities from the end of T-bone action 24, December 52 to the close of the year 1953. The account of tactical operations for infantry united was carried through until 31 December 1952, when the Division was relieved and moved into reserve. Emphasis was placed upon photographs to record forever this period of the Division's history for the men who lived it. The 2nd Infantry Division ("Indianhead"; "2ID," "2nd ID", or "Second D") is a formation of the United States Army. With the outbreak of hostilities in Korea during the summer of 1950, the 2nd Infantry Division was the first unit to reach Korea directly from the United States. The entire division was committed as a unit on 24 August 1950, relieving the 24th Infantry Division at the Naktong River Line. In the 16-day battle, the division's clerks, bandsmen, technical and supply personnel joined in the fight to defend against the attackers. The Chinese winter offensive was finally blunted by the 2nd Infantry Division on 31 January at Wonju. In February 1951, the division repulsed a powerful Chinese counter-offensive in the epic battles of Chipyong-ni and Wonju. In August 1951, it was on the offensive once again, ordered to attack a series of ridges that had been designated threats to the Eighth Army's line. Isenbart, and with some marginal translations i…nto German (and pronunciation guides) up to p.43 and again pp.431-455 in volume I.Second edition, revised, of John Tompson's important English Miscellanies, expanded to almost twice the size of the first edition, including up-to-date content published since 1737.New to this edition are Pope's The Universal Prayer and ten letters (as well as several written to him); two new poems by Prior (an 'Ode presented to the King', 1695, and 'Henry and Emma'), and two by Addison ('An Account of the Greatest English Poets' and A Letter from Italy to Lord Halifax), as well as his essay 'Of Christian Religion'; letters and poems by Elizabeth Rowe, and an elegy by her son after her death in 1737; two long extracts from Glover's political epic Leonidas (1737); and two full plays The Non-Juror by Colley Cibber, and James Thomson's Agamemnon (1738); as well as two numbers each from the Free-Thinker and The Guardian. The volume also contains, significantly, what is almost certainly the first appearance in Germany of any part of Edward Young's The Complaint, or Night Thoughts (1742-6) here the long meditation on death that closes the third 'night'. Young's fame was to grow nowhere greater than in Germany, where he was read by Klopstock, Lessing, Wieland, and Goethe, and his name became a battle-cry for the Sturm und Drang movement. The first German translations from the poem appeared in periodical form in 1749-50.ESTC lists eight copies, but only BL in the UK and none in the US.

A map of the parish of Saint Pancras, with a bucolic title cartouche surrounded by trees and ponds. Bodies of water are marked in blu…e, public buildings in pink, offices and workshops in yellow, and streets in orange. Houses are marked with their numbers, and the land is divided into holdings and marked with their names and acreage. The label on the slipcase identifies it as a copy of John Tompson's survey of the parish, commissioned by the select vestry in 1796. It was lithographed by Robert J. Cook and Hammond, and first published in 1804. This edition was reissued in 1906. Rare: No institutional copies of this edition known; copies of the earlier edition at the BL BL 4145.(8.) [earlier edition].
