Final ad. page. Attractively bound in full tan calf, bordered in gilt, raised bands, gilt in compartments, brown morocco label; extremities sl. rubbed. A lovely copy. a.e.g. First published in 1803. Copac lists the first edition at BL & Liverpool only and this edition at BL, Liverpool & Oxford. John Peter Roberdeau, 1754-1815, was primarily known as a dramatist. This is an interesting volume of miscellaneous writing, which the DNB describes as 'trifles, often neatly turned, upon topics of the day'. From the prefatory note: 'The author has perhaps to apologize throughout the whole of this small Volume, for some inaccuracies of stile, peculiarities of thought, and various other errors. Most unpleasantly remote from his many valuable and literary connections, not a single piece or page has had the advantage of friendly correction, or amending revisal. But the whole has been upon almost sudden thought, hurried from the port-folio to the press.'.
