John Philip Kemble (1757-1823) was a British actor who came from an acting family. In his time, he was highly regarded as an accomplished actor who brought out the finest details of the characters he portrayed. Kemble played many roles including a number of Shakespearean characters.

This is a stupendously bound set in a limited edition of 26 copies only. It is a biographical panoply of figures straddling the theatre world and also includes members of the English aristocracy. Each illustration is represented in three states. The enamel inlaid decoration is particularly fine.
