Despite the library markings, it is a decent copy, clean and tight. ; There is a frontispiece portrait of John Sterling and nine other full-page illustrations, including drawings of the buildings on campus that were named for him. ; frontispiece portrait, full page illustrations; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; ix, 113 p pages; John Sterling (1844-1918) was a 1864 graduate of Yale College, did a year of post graduate work at the college and then attended law school at Columbia. He practiced law in New York City and in 1873, he and Thomas Shearman founded Shearman and Sterling. Sterling died in 1918 and left a residuary estate of $15 million to Yale. In accordance to his request, Yale established an endowment Of the Sterling professorships, and built Sterling Memorial Library, Sterling Law Building, the Hall of Graduate Studies, and the Sterling Hall of Medicine.
