Excellent copy of the posthumous memoirs of the Swiss physicist Jean-Daniel Colladon (1802-1893), best known for measuring the speed of sound together with his colleague Charles Sturm. The volume is amply illustrated with evocative scenes of Colladon sitting in a little rowboat, his ear to a sound receptor deep beneath the water.
