Hardcover. Condition: new. Hardcover. Taking the female body for her muse, Janaina Tschaepe explores themes of the body and landscape, sex, death, renewal and transformation in paintings, drawings, photographs and video installations. To experience Tschaepe's work is to swim through universes of polymorphous landscapes amongst embryonic forms, ambiguous characters and exotic botanical life. She seeks to give form to the trance of art making, portraying not a dream world, but the sensation of being in one. "Janaina Tschaepe shares her forename with a Brazilian water goddess, and, not coincidentally, her photographs and performances-to-video feature sumptuously organic, watery, distorted female figures," writes Frieze. Her use of organic lines and ethereal forms in her paintings create a network of relationships, linking the process of artistic practice to lifecycles found in nature. In Brazil, nature is overwhelming. Everything is growing on top of something else - there is always a plant breaking through a wall or a tree shooting out of the ground. When she returns to the city, she paints with these memories. Her paintings exist in a state of their own becoming. They are systems of palimpsests; each brushstroke, a materially emphatic note, partially occludes a previous mark. In this way, forms are built and colors orchestrated through layers of accumulation. Taking the female body for her muse, Janaina Tschape explores themes of the body and landscape, sex, death, renewal and transformation in paintings, drawings, photographs and video installations. This book deals with her work. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.…

Buch. Condition: Neu. 240 pp. Deutsch, Englisch.…

Paperback. Condition: New. In a curious botanical milieu peopled with costumed creatures born from myths and folktales, Janaina Tschape makes photographs and video. Melantropics, her first American monograph, documents recent works staged in the 79-acre Saint Louis Botanical Garden, a National Historic Landmark and one of the countryâs oldest botanical institutions, and in Rio de Janeiroâs John Tyndale-designed Parque Lage. The linked projects incorporate the same costumes and props, leaving viewers to decipher their artificially luxuriant locales. Photographed and filmed during the spring, their subjects serve as transitory blooms and foliage, surrogates for those that have withered and those yet to blossom. Tsachape, born in Germany and living in Brooklyn, has shown her work at the Centre Georges Pompidou, the National Museum of Women in the Arts and on the flashing screens of Times Square, through Creative Timesâs 59th Minute program.…
