Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the relationship between top management's understanding of the strategic alignment between the business and information technology (IT) domains and the organizational context in which that understanding is manifested. Using responses from a nationwide survey of top executives in the health care industry, the author tests a series of hypotheses regarding the context -strategic alignment relationship. The author also examines the impact of two contingency variables: structure of the top management team and perceived environmental uncertainty. Overall, the findings indicate systematic linkages between the information-processing activities of top managers and their understanding of the critical relationships that define strategic alignment. The specific relationships and contingencies found suggest that managers must manage the context in which they strive to make sense of their ambiguous environments as well as the specific business and IT issues they are forced to confront if they are to be successful in utilizing IT as a source of competitive advantage. Hardcover, x + 228pp + 24 pages of glossy b&w photos, facsimiles of documents & b&w drawings and maps in text, NOT ex-library. No ISBN. Little minor wear, great shape throughout. Book is clean and bright, untanned, with unmarked text, free of inscriptions and stamps, firmly bound. Bright untorn dust jacket. -- Hay & Company, the best known of all Shetland firms, was founded in 1844 by William Hay and two of his sons. As general merchants their shops at Lerwick, Scalloway, Whalsay, North Roe and other parts of Shetland supplied a complete range of household goods while by the middle of last century they were the islands' largest suppliers of coal and timber - a position the firm still holds. Hay & Company played a decisive role in the development of the islands' fishing industry, both as fish-curers and owners of fishing vessels. By the latter half of the 19th century their vessels fished as far away as the Davis Straits. No transaction was too small or too large for Hay & Company as they organised outlets for cattle, chrome ore, kelp, knitwear, peat, ponies, potatoes and whale oil - indeed everything that the islands could produce. In 1921 the firm became a limited liability company with the name of Hay & Company (Lerwick) Ltd. In 1975 it was acquired by John Fleming & Company of Aberdeen although it still retains its separate identity. It serves as agent for many important national firms and institutions, among them Lloyds of London, while for several generations the firm's directors have served as consuls or vice-consuls for Denmark, Finland, France, Norway and the Netherlands. Since 1972 Hay & Company have played a vital role in the development of the North Sea oilfields as agents for most of the major oil companies. Compiled from the company's letter books and ledgers this volume is more than just the proud history of a remarkable firm - it is a social history of the islands covering the past century and a half.

Henderson's transformation from a supporter of the established order to a leading advocate for Presbyterianism is meticulously traced, revealing the complexities of a man caught between loyalty to his faith and the demands of his time. The book delves into Henderson's pivotal role in shaping the Church of Scotland's identity, as well as his involvement in the tumultuous events of the period, including the Bishops' Wars and the Westminster Assembly. Through its exploration of Henderson's life and thought, this book provides a profound insight into the religious and political dynamics that shaped Scotland and England during a transformative era. That tradition is vividly portrayed in Gardens of Georgia, commissioned by the Garden Club of Georgia, Inc., to commemorate its sixtieth anniversary and to celebrate the heritage and beauty of Georgia's gardens. As noted by Georgia founder James Oglethorpe in 1732, Georgia has a happy climate. From the broad-shouldered mountains of the Blue Ridge, through the red clay of the rolling piedmont, across the sprawling piney coastal plain, and on to the subtropical islands on the Atlantic, Georgia is blessed with four regions of gardening opportunities, distinctly defined by differences in elevation, climate, soil, and natural vegetation.Writer William Mitchell and photographer Richard Moore have portrayed the wonders of gardens historic and contemporary, public and private, and urban, suburban, and rural from each of these regions. Whether illustrating overall gardenscapes or capturing intimate vignettes and individual blossoms, Richard Moore's photographs have a depth of color and clarity of detail that immerse the reader into a world of delightful splendor. The text by Willaim Mitchell not only describes the settings as they are today, but also spins a rich background of history in the context of the botanical Eden observed by early explorers. The richest legacy of each generation is to preserve and protect an always vulnerable natural environment and help nature bring forth its green and glowing cycles of rebirth. Gardens of Georgia celebrates that legacy, sharing the ongoing dream of paradise--a new Eden--whether it is in a grand formal garden from an earlier era or a small plot of perennials in a Georgia yard. ; FINE/FINE.
