XXXVII, 344 S.; Titel, 1 Bl., 512 Seiten, ORDENTLICHES EXEMPLAR dieses seltenen Titels in der EA WG 5. Fallmerayer (1790 - 1861) war Geschichtforscher und Reisender. Er unternahm mehrere ausgedehnte Reisen in den Orient. In seinen wissenschaftlichen Arbeiten vertrat F. die heute widerlegte Ansicht, das das Hellenentum im Mittelalter ausgerottet wurde und die Neugriechen meist slawisch-albanischer Abstammung seien. Er wurde 1835 Akademiemitglied, aber erst 1848 Professor in München. 1849 verlor er wegen seiner Zugehörigkeit zur Frankfurter Nationalversammlung sein Lehramt. Erste Ausgabe der Beschreibung der zweiten Orientreise des bayrischen Historikers und Politikers. Als Begleiter des Grafen Ostermann-Tolstoi fuhr er von Regensburg die Donau hinab ins Schwarze Meer, verweilte in Trapezunt und Konstantinopel, besuchte den Berg Athos und bereiste Makedonien, Thessalien und einen grossen Teil Griechenlands. Das Kapitel XIV widmt sich nochmals dem heiklen Thema, das Fallmerayer sehr viel Kritik eingebrachte hatte: "Das slawische Element in Griechenland". Darauf folgend Kapitel XV: "Wie der Fragmentist wegen seiner Ansichten über das griechische Mittelalter in Athen anfangs als öffentlicher Feind behandelt wird."
