This bookplate for Viscount Birkenhead (Frederick Edwin Smith 1872-1930). has a dramatic armorial design with lions, a crested shield, and the Latin motto "Faber Mea Fortunae" (One makes one's own destiny). Viscount Birkenhead was a powerful British Conservative politician and a personal friend of Winston Churchill. He was titled Viscount in 1921, so the bookplate would date after that.…
