Very Good copies. Two volumes which contain printed versions of letters written by Henry Adams in the periods, 1858-1891 and 1892-1918. The letters document his many travels in the United States and abroad and some of his innermost thoughts and beliefs. As the son of Charles Francis Adams, Sr., an American politician and diplomat, Henry had insider information about political circles in Washington, D.C. and the opportunity to travel to many countries outside of the U.S. such as Germany, Japan, England, Scotland, Egypt, Greece, Turkey, Hungary, Austria, France, Poland, Scandinavia, Russia, and Mexico. Henry Adams (1838-1918) was an American historian, journalist, author, Harvard University professor, and a descendant of John Adams and John Quincy Adams who were respectively his paternal great-grandfather and grandfather. Henry became well-known for his observant and intelligent insights but also his outspoken critiques. Notably, Adams helped expose corruption in U.S. politics, corporations, and finance. These two volumes were edited by Worthington Chauncey Ford (1858-1941), an American historian, archivist, and editor. He is perhaps best-known for his edited publications of documents by the Founding Fathers.

The paper reached a circulation of 900,000 by 1925, second only to the New York Daily News, largely due to a quota system for promotion imposed on Ford dealers. Lawsuits regarding antisemitic material published in the paper caused Ford to close it, and the last issue was published in December 1927. The publication's title was derived from the Detroit suburb of Dearborn, Michigan." (Wikipedia). CONDITION: Overall VG. Some mild discoloration on the cover and light wear. Hardcover. Presumed first edition/first printing. vi p., 1 l., 552 p. front. (port. ) 25 cm. Occasional footnotes. Index. The Editor hoped to make Henry Adams better and more humanly known from these letters than he felt could be gained from the detached examination of himself in the Education of Henry Adams. Relatively little letters and related documentation on Henry Adams was available to the editor. About 1885 he destroyed all his diaries, notes, and correspondence and recalled, from time to time, his letters for his correspondents and destroyed them as well. Good. No dust jacket. Cover has some wear and soiling, corners rubbed, and some "dings". Some endpaper discoloration. Some edge soiling.
