Hardcover. Condition: new. Hardcover. Within the pages of this book you will see how cement structures, intended for barriers, are transformed into pictorial walls that identify military units and honour service members who gave their lives for freedom in the Gulf War. They provide an esprit de corps for their unit members who are forward deployed from their home base, post, or camp. The unit colours and insignias displayed on these walls become the thoughts and memories of the men and women who have fought, and for those who have died for freedom. Memorial walls proclaim in silence the ultimate sacrifice of service. This artwork represents Coalition Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, Coast Guard, and D.O.D. Civilians who answered the call of freedom and deployed far from home and family. When these walls decay and are turned to rubble, this book will become a lasting legacy to those who have served in Kuwait and Iraq. AUTHOR: George Hauer is the Co-Founder of Operation: Music Aid, the supplier of over 2,400 new instruments to wounded soldiers and vets. 274 colour photographs Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.

Manuscript / Paper Collectible First Edition
Condition: Very Good. First Edition. Signed affidavit before the justice of the peace stating that Ellen Brookes (sp? Brooken, Brooker) is a free born not a slave, and that the woman in question is her. From Frederick County Maryland, and signed by George William Hauer. George William Hauer of Frederick, MD (1777-1848), was a War of 1812 veteran. He is buried in Mt. Olive Cementery in Frederick, MD. Hugh Hughes was the Frederick County, Maryland, officiant written on front of affidavit. In Maryland, the free/enslaved status of a child was determined by the status of their mother, so by proving Ellen Brookes was free, her children thereafter would be born free as well. Maryland had the largest Freeborn population in the U.S., with 49% of the Black population free, majority located in and around Baltimore. It's not specified how she was freed however, abolition groups were incredibly active in the region some masters would find religion and free their slaves, or free their descendants, mixed children born to white women were born free, as well as groups of freedmen combining funds to buy and then free people. Fearing unrest with the large population of Free persons, a lot of people were freed under the condition they went to colonize Liberia with the American Colonization Society (based in D.C. with the Maryland Branch one of the most prominent), where the majority of those immigrants died quickly. Catalogued by Anastasia Rittenhousesmith. Manuscripts & Paper Collectibles.
