Hardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. This G- quality book was copyrighted in 1918 and is published by George Sully & Co.; it is 7-5/8" tall with 218 numbered pages of text followed by 2 unnumbered pages of ads. This book has a gray cloth binding with black lettering and illustration in blue and black, thus a format #1 as per Mattson & Davis. It is square, heavily soiled, free of edge dings with all four corners lightly bumped; the head and heel of the spine are bumped with fabric wear and damage; the bottom edges have a moderate amount of wear but the boards are not exposed. The spine is very heavily soiled but the lettering is legible. The front panel image and lettering are clean and have very little wear. The interior is free of writing, stray marks and page damage; however, many pages have stains, mostly but not entirely confined to the margins, but the text is always readable. The paper covering both hinges is torn and both have their cheese cloth exposed and are thus weaken. Also, the FFEP is gone, but the frontis on coated paper remains. The text paper is very mildly toned and it is very flexible. The book has no remainder mark and is not a former library book. The series list in back of the book lists the first 5 titles in this series. This is a rather good reading copy, but a reading copy only.

Part of the Navy Boys Series; verso of title page lists two others and this title in the series, and all were published in 1918. Single black-and-white illustration at frontis. Single page at rear lists other juvenile titles by this publisher. Cover cloth deteriorating and age-browned, with moderate darkening to spine (original cloth color may have been light blue) and weave of cloth starting to show through. Heavy foxing to frontispiece, verso, and adjoining pages. Text pages age-browned. Clean and tight with only faint wear.

Hardcover. Condition: Good. First Edition. frontis; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 218 pages; HC 1st edition, presumed. Prior owner name and Nov 23, 1918 date penned to front endpage. Publisher notice on copyright page lists 3 Navy Boys titles, though it was generally common practice to have the first several books in a series planned and mostly written at the time of the first book's appearance. Soundly bound in original gray cloth with pictorial title design in blue and black to cover. Some light silverfish spotting to the cloth; binding a little shelf cocked in the spine. Page stock with expected and usual moderate to heavy toning. Cloth rubbed at edges. Illustrated with frontis on glossy stock by Herbert. Good only.
